Malayalam in Kochi’s schools
Kerala’s Malayalam Language Learning Act, 2017 requires Malayalam to be taught as a language from Class 1 to Class 10 in all schools in the state, and its definition of a school includes unaided schools affiliated to CBSE or CISCE. Students who come from other states or countries can be exempted from the Class 10 Malayalam examination, although they are still taught the language.
A newer law, the Malayalam Language Act, 2025, makes Malayalam the compulsory first language in government and aided schools up to Class 10. It also says students from other states or countries do not have to write the Malayalam examination in Class 9 or Class 10.
eGunas does not teach Malayalam. Its language courses are English, and Hindi for CBSE students.
Rain holidays in Ernakulam district
Kochi lies in Ernakulam district, where educational institutions are closed on days of very heavy rain. On 4 and 5 August 2026, the district collectors of Ernakulam and several neighbouring districts declared holidays for educational institutions, Onmanorama reported, and Ernakulam’s schools were also shut on 17 and 25 July 2025.
A rain holiday need not mean a missed lesson: eGunas lessons are online, so they can go ahead as long as the power and internet connection at home are working.
Kerala syllabus students and the SSLC
Students on the Kerala State syllabus take the SSLC examination at the end of Class 10. It is conducted by Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan, the office of the Commissioner for Government Examinations in Thiruvananthapuram.
eGunas State Board courses cover Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, but the catalogue does not name which state boards they follow. Ask at the free demo class whether the lessons match the Kerala syllabus your child studies.
